Guide to selecting the best 3D TV
Selecting or finalizing the best when it comes to 3D TV has turned into a very difficult process given the variety and often contradictory information that one gets to read these days. It is however possible to select which are the features of the 3D TV that one does not want. The image quality for one differs with each set and this is one place to start with.
But it is better to understand the process of 3D technology before starting the elimination process.
To put it in simple terms and without getting too much into the technicalities of it, the 3D image is created by displaying the same image twice, one for each eye. The two frames that appear to the respective eyes is not identical but at a different angle while 3D glasses play a vital role here since they help selecting the right image for the right eye. It is therefore an illusionary effect upon the human brain that goes to create a sense of depth and therefore the 3D effect.
The glasses therefore form an integral and important part of the 3D technology. It is this apparatus that selects the image meant for the correct eye. This filtering of images for the correct eye is what the TV is all about when it comes to 3D visualization.
In case of active glasses the images that come sequentially is blocked by the glass depending on which eye is to see the picture and which not.
For passive glasses the glass helps the eye to focus on the correct image which appears simultaneously.
In order to display two images simultaneously on screen which has the same number of image lines the resolution has to be halved. In the case of 3D TV sets using passive technology the image resolution is therefore twice as low as normal 2D image. Such sets are not capable of delivering true HD 3D images. Viewing blue ray also one cannot be watching High Definition.
One would feel convinced otherwise by watching the advertisement that LG is airing in favor of its sets which uses passive technology.
The aspect of resolution being halved has been missed out by LG.
The passive glasses though have few advantages and that is being lighter and not requiring any battery power while the images are brighter. The flip side though that one must consider is that one is spending money for a 3D TV but is getting resolution that is lower than even 2D TVs.
Passive technology TV has the resolution loss issue only when viewing 3D format. While using the screen for 2D viewing one would get the full HD resolution. The LG TV has the other advantage of being cheap. These are some of the factors that one needs to bear in mind before eliminating LG off ones select list of 3D TV sets.
